On October 6, 2024, at the La Trinidad Municipal Gymnasium, Pines City Colleges (PCC) was honored with an award of recognition during the Balili River Day awarding ceremony. The event celebrated the vital efforts of local institutions and partners who have made significant contributions to the preservation and enhancement of the Balili River System.
PCC was recognized for its continuous commitment and active participation in improving the river’s water quality. The recognition emphasized the institution’s significant achievements, particularly their persistent support of efforts targeted at restoring and sustaining the Balili River’s health. As an active partner in the Balili River System Water Quality Engagement, PCC’s efforts have been important in resolving environmental issues and supporting sustainable practices in the region. Through partnership with many stakeholders, the institution has demonstrated a commitment to positively impacting the local environment and creating awareness about the need of safe water for the community’s well-being.
PCC Project A.N.G.E.L.S.: Continuing Support for Environmental Care
PCC Project A.N.G.E.L.S. is an active program at PCC, headed by Ms. Rowena Acacio from the Community Engagement Service. The initiative has led efforts to improve the environment, particularly in terms of water quality and conservation. One of its most significant achievements was its active participation in the Balili River System Water Quality Improvement Program. This project is responsive with Sustainable Development Goal 6 and Sustainable Development Goal 13, which aims to ensure clean water and sanitation and Climate Action. By participating in such initiatives, Project A.N.G.E.L.S. contributes to the purity of the Balili River, a vital water source in the region.
In addition to this, Project A.N.G.E.L.S. also organized a tree planting activity on September 28, 2024, at the Botanical Watershed. This event was another step toward addressing environmental challenges in Baguio City, with the goal of promoting sustainable practices and enhancing the city’s natural resources.
PCC’s recognition not only underscores the institution’s environmental commitment but also encourages continued collaboration between various sectors, including government agencies, local organizations, and educational institutions. By working together, these groups aim to protect and improve the region’s natural resources and contribute to the ongoing preservation of the Balili River.
