On May 4, 2024, Pines City Colleges at the ESBC Main Building, Open Grounds, organized a Career Guidance Fair for graduating students with the theme “Prepared and Confidently Competent in the Work Setting of Health Care.” This activity was conducted by the Guidance Office in collaboration with Student Affairs and Services. Exposing graduating students to this type of activity helps them navigate their chosen career. It enlightened them on the key employment generators, labor market demands, and work ethics in the emotionally challenging job of health care providers.
Vice President of Administration and Finance, Ms. Ma. Regina S. Prats kicked off the celebration with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, along with Mr. Jayson Belino, Head of Student Affairs and Services, and Mrs. Consuelo Pagaduan, Guidance Counselor of PCC. The guidance fair had a colorful and festive set-up. Excitement and curiosity moved the students to tour the booths. The following booths were set up: career information, mental health and wellness, and group guidance.
The career information booth was one of the most essential booths at the event because it assisted students in achieving their long-term professional aspirations. The booth also showcased DOLE, PRC, and PESOS’s updated research on job demands and requirements. This exploration could help a student find a path that is intriguing, meaningful, and leads to a desired job. In collaboration with the PCC library and information services, supplement research on careers supported the guidance fair as well.
In the mental health and wellness booth, a series of information were provided by the PCC guidance office, such as a self-care series and psychological first aid video presentation on coping with anxiety and stress. The partner agencies Philippine Mental Health Association, Inc., Psych Up, Psych Start, and the mental health services of the city provided the event with brochures, flyers, and their helplines to help mental health cases.
One of the major highlights of the guidance fair was the group guidance booth. Seven sessions were conducted with a total of 68 graduating students. In preparation for board examinations, practical guides on test-taking strategies and effective study habits were discussed. As the session concluded, positive affirmations were written by the students on their stars and pinned to the dark sky, symbolizing hope, hard work, determination, and motivation to work toward their goals. #Collin Jaye Laguinday
