For the past few years, institutions and universities have suffered from the pandemic. A lot of activities in schools have been suspended, and students had only limited activities during those days, but now that the world is going back with strength, those activities that were suspended are slowly going back into our lives. After 4 years of hiatus, Pines City Colleges (PCC) returned for their 2023β2024 intramurals. The intramurals were held in the PCC Covered Court on February 8, 2024, with the theme “ππ’π₯π€π¬ππ§ππ£π πππ£ππ¨, ππ‘ππ«ππ©ππ£π ππ₯ππ§ππ©π¨: ππ€π¨π©ππ§ππ£π πΎπ€π’π’πͺπ£ππ©πππ¨ πππ§π€πͺππ ππ₯π€π§π©π¨.” This year’s intramurals are more than just a sports competition; they also teach students the essence of camaraderie, empower everyone, and remind them that everyone is a champion. The event began with the parade of the non-teaching staff, department faculty, and players and was immediately followed by the entrance of colors. The first part of the event was truly colorful and filled with joy and energy.
One of the most essential aspects of intramurals is the guest speaker’s inspirational address, which motivates the players. The event’s guest speaker is Mr. Jeremy “The Juggernaut” Pacatiw, a mixed martial artist. During his address, he said, “As an athlete, I learned that it is necessary to surround yourself with the right people because those will help you bring out the best version of yourself.” His statement means that if you are an athlete, always choose who you trust and who you do not trust because if you want to improve yourself and learn how to fight clean and fair, always choose the right path because in sports, whether you lose, you are still a winner.
Following the inspirational speech, the celebration quickly went on to the next phase, which was the lighting of the torch to officially launch the PCC Intramurals 2023-2024. The enthusiasm in the stadium is evident; it intensifies because the most anticipated portion of the event, the cheer dance and mascot competition, began right after the lighting of the torch.Β Β
The cheer dance and mascot competition featured six teams and five teams: The College of Nursing, the College of Dentistry, the College of Pharmacy, the Senior High School Department, the College of Medical Laboratory Science, and the College of Respiratory Therapy/Physical Therapy. During the competition, you can sense the tension and hear the cheers of excitement from all of the students who participated. During the mascot competition, each department demonstrated its creativity. The theme of the mascot competition was to design a mascot based on a Pokemon character. The mascot competition was followed by the cheer dance competition. In this competition, contestants demonstrated their ability to dance and create choreography. All of the contenders did well.
The winners have already been chosen following a tough competition. The College of Dentistry won the cheer dance competition, followed by the College of Pharmacy and the College of Nursing. The College of Pharmacy was crowned champion in the mascot competition, with the College of Dentistry and Nursing coming in first and second place, respectively.

WALL OF ENCOURAGEMENT
Thinking of ways to unite the schoolβs different departments during the Intramurals, the collaboration of the SAS and the OFPharm gave birth to what we deemed βThe Wall of Encouragementβ. Having colors assigned to each department, with permission from each Department Organizationβs Presidents, jerseys were created for students to freely write onto. It began clean, and by the end of the Intramurals, it got vibrant support from students of the different departments. Other departments were cheering on the other departments perfectly showcasing the true goal of this project. In this way somehow, weβve gotten a lot closer and comfortable with each other. Viva! Ascendo! Bonakid! Letβs Go!

This 2023-2024 intramural serves as a reminder that everyone is a champion and shows sportsmanship at all times. It’s okay to lose since there will always be another chance, and celebrate those that win. Eliminate bitterness from our hearts and always choose to be kind. #Collin Jaye Laguinday
