Prepared and Confidently Competent: SHS Students Explore Their Future at Pines City Colleges Career Guidance Seminar

Choosing a career is one of the most important decisions a student will make, especially during Senior High School when plans for college and the future begin to take shape. It is not only about selecting a course, but also about understanding one’s interests, strengths, and long-term goals. Recognizing the importance of proper guidance, Pines City Colleges continues to support students by providing opportunities that help them explore their options and prepare confidently for the next stage of their academic journey.

On February 9, Senior High School students gathered at the PT-AVR of the ESBC Main Building for the Career Guidance Seminar with the theme, “Prepared and Confidently Competent for College: My Career Options, what is Next?” The seminar aimed to equip students with the knowledge and confidence they need as they prepare for college life. The morning session featured deans from different college departments of Pines City Colleges. They introduced the courses offered in their respective departments and explained what students can expect in each program. They also shared information about course requirements, possible career paths, and the skills needed to succeed. Through these presentations, students gained a clearer understanding of the academic programs available to them and were encouraged to reflect on which path best matches their interests and abilities.

One of the highlights of the event was the Showcase of Career Outfits, participated in by SHS students. Some dressed as healthcare professionals such as doctors, nurses, and surgeons, while others represented engineers, architects, and even seafarers, proudly showcasing the careers they aspire to pursue in the future. Dressed as future professionals, the students confidently presented their chosen careers in front of their peers and judges. This activity allowed them to express their dreams and take pride in their aspirations.

In the afternoon, Ms. Jona Mae Garapo, our psychometrician released and interpreted the individual results of Grade 11’s Career Tests, namely Multiple Intelligence Tests and Holland’s RIASEC. It helped the students identify their personality types, strengths and possible career match. The interpretations guided them in understanding themselves better and explore career options that suit their abilities and interests.

Meanwhile, Grade 12 students reflected their journey of Career Exploration through a follow-up Career Checklist to evaluate their career paths. Furthermore, an enlightening talk was discussed by our Guidance Counselor, Ms. Consuelo Pagaduan, in line with the major factors to consider in choosing a career namely: AAI, ability, attitude, and interests.

The highlight of the career day was the awarding of the winners in the Career Outfit namely: Mr. Kevin Louis Prado, Ms. Jomelle Kate Dan, and Ms. Marie Josaine Depaynos.

Overall, the Career Guidance Seminar at Pines City Colleges was a meaningful and productive event. It provided students with helpful information, self-assessment opportunities, and encouragement as they prepare for their college journey. Through this initiative, Pines City Colleges continues to guide SHS students in becoming prepared and confidently competent as they decide what comes next. #Marissa Mangeg, SHS
