On May 17, 2025, NSTP students from Pines City Colleges—specifically from the College of Medical Laboratory Science and the College of Nursing—demonstrated their compassionate spirit beyond the laboratory and bedside by spearheading a successful donation drive for Furvent Animal Rescue and Advocacy. The initiative aimed to provide essential supplies for the 170 rescued dogs and 8 rescued cats currently under Furvent’s care.

Motivated by a shared love for animals and a strong sense of community responsibility instilled through their NSTP program, the students mobilized their peers, faculty, and the broader community to contribute generously. Over five working days, they gathered a significant amount of much-needed items, including dog and cat food, animal cages, vegetables, pet shampoos, and cleaning supplies for the shelter.
Ms. Precious Gaerlan, a representative from the College of Medical Laboratory Science, along with Ms. Jamila Valencia from the Department of Nursing, shared their reflections on the experience:
“Witnessing Furvent’s dedication to providing a haven for these vulnerable animals truly inspired us,” they said. “As future healthcare professionals, we understand the importance of care and well-being for all living beings. This initiative allowed us to extend that care to animals in need within our community, aligning with our school’s mission, vision, philosophy, and core values.”
Furvent Animal Rescue and Advocacy has been working tirelessly to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome abandoned and neglected animals in the Benguet area. Their mission relies heavily on the generosity and support of the community. The involvement of Medical Laboratory Science and Nursing students underscores the vital role student engagement plays in supporting local organizations and making a tangible difference in the lives of animals. This initiative stands as a heartwarming example of civic engagement and compassion, illustrating how young individuals can contribute meaningfully to animal welfare while fulfilling the goals of their NSTP program. The collaboration between Pines City Colleges students and Furvent Animal Rescue and Advocacy highlights the power of collective action in building a more caring and humane community for all. #Precious Gaerlan, BMLS
