The Supreme Student Council (SSC) of Pines City Colleges (PCC) has once again proven their enthusiasm for developing school spirit and involvement with the actively proposed founding anniversary of the college, which was held from October 2 to October 10, 2024. The celebration had several lively activities, and somewhat, all the entire high point was used as a field by the SSC. From creative space setup to organizing traditional games, managing charitable efforts, and even stage performances, the SSC played a significant role in making this special occasion a success. Here is a detailed look at their remarkable contributions to the festivities.
Setting the tone with creativity
The anniversary indeed began with a splashing trade fair. SSC added an interactive essence of having a photo booth containing props and backgrounds whose theme resembled the celebratory spirit so that in the process, students who wanted to grab memories with friends would find the photo booth to be the core. This encouraged students to donate change from their pocket towards a tip box, thus fostering a culture of community support. Throughout the anniversary week, SSC also ran the “Choose Your Filter” campaign—themed days that asked students to express themselves through what they wore to school. There was a theme to every day. For example, on October 2, it featured the Wash Day Shirt; on October 3, it was a pajama party; on October 9, it was quirkiness in the shape of Anything but a Bag; and on October 10, all things that were green would be represented with Anything Green as a food coupon, and cash prizes await. This campaign made the celebration fun and play-filled, inviting students from all colleges, including nursing, pharmacy, medical laboratory science, dentistry, respiratory therapy, and physical therapy, to participate and bond using these common themes.
Celebrate Heritage and Unity with “Laro ng Lahi”
The SSC officers are one of the organizing committees for the much-awaited “Laro ng Lahi” event, celebrating games from different faculties and non-faculty employees as well as the students from various departments. The activities included some of the country’s most popular games, such as Patintero, Sack Race, Touch the Body, 400m Relay, Sipa, Siatong, Tumbang Preso, and Luksong Lubid. It was left to the organization SSC officers to manage each game activity and enforce fair play. Enjoyment of the SSC was evident with their professionalism in organization and managing fair plays.
Laughter, teamwork, and collaboration marked that day forward when playing traditional games. Students from all the various courses gathered for a day of no books and no tension, just a day to have fun and play. SSC officers showed their organizational skills in coming together with the different departments in order to ensure a smooth run of the day of pleasing all the members. Their energy rubbed off onto the celebratory atmosphere as it seemed that this campus was becoming a lively ground for fun-filled traditions.
PCC Fun Run
The Foundation Week is not without the anniversary Fun Run on October 7. The run started from Teacher’s Camp going back at PCC. As part of the organizing committees, the SSC made sure everything was well-run like clockwork. One notable gesture was in the provision of free Gatorade drinks during the run and after, to hydrate the participants. Their support did not stop at that level; they also gave out medals for the 12 winners, categorized into different groups; students — male and female, and employees — male and female.
Their efforts in the Fun Run manifested not only as advocacy in promoting healthy lifestyles but also care for the students’ and staff’s well-being. There is no feeling better than the runners experienced during the event heightened by the thoughtful touches of SSC, especially for those who have participated in the fun run.
Titanic-Themed Dance Performance at the PCC Variety Show
On October 9, the SSC officers traded in their administrative duties to wear the stage as modern interpreters for a dance — strutting themes of Titanic. The shows were in three separate sets, creating artistic narration combined with exciting stunts for the depth of the sad tale of Titanic. Agility, accuracy, and drama found themselves in the celebration, and by the end, everyone thinks of how versatile they are.
This innovative piece by the SSC showed how well it could move beyond the administrative work to create performances that would appeal to the community above and beyond the planning and organization of activities. Their bold choreographies and marvelous stunts simply stunned the audience and became a good topic of talk during the anniversary week.
SSC’s Lasting Impact
SSC demonstrates involvement in the Pines City Colleges’ foundation celebration, which clearly demonstrated teamwork, service, and innovation. As a result, the anniversary was a success not just in terms of entertainment, but also in terms of bonding with the campus community. SSC demonstrated that leadership is more than simply planning; it is also about making connections, honoring tradition, and giving back to those in need. Their dedication to the week has left an unforgettable impression on the students and teachers of Pines City Colleges, ensuring that future festivities will be held to greater standards. #JAM BARREDO (SSC)
