Last Saturday, April 27, 2024, Pines City Colleges’ Student Affairs and Services hosted the GAWAD Student Achievers in Research and Student Service (STARSS) award ceremony in the ESBC Annex Building, 601-603. The event was chaired by Sir Jayson Belino, Head of Student Affairs and Services. GAWAD STARSS is an institution-wide celebration that is held annually, and this awarding ceremony is to give appreciation to all student leaders who excelled in the institution.
The GAWAD PINES awards were the first set of awards that were awarded. These are individual awards that were given to those students who manifested the institution’s core values throughout their journey in serving the college as well as the community. The event was filled with excitement as students awaited the announcement of the GAWAD PINES awardees. Ms. Ma. Regina S. Prats, Vice President of Administration and Finance, was also present at the event to support and present the awards to the student leaders and organizations who received honors.
Nicole Bethany D. Cayabas received the Outstanding Student in Cultural and Performing Arts award, Nixson A. Wallace received the Outstanding Student in Community Engagement award and Outstanding Institutional Organization Leader, Jovann B. Gracia received the Outstanding Student in Sports award, and Zhianela Rishun G. Vicente was named Outstanding College Organization Leader and finally, the Student Organization Innovative Program Award & College Organization of the Year was awarded to the Organization of Future Pharmacists.
The next part of the program was a tribute to student organization leaders, where student leaders gave certificates of appreciation and tokens to each officers of the organization. It was an emotional part of the event because you could feel their love and support for one another; they showed how they are more than just an organization, but a family.

Before the program ended, Mr. Belino, Head of SAS, left a message to all the student leaders: “Continue to shine brightly and inspire others with your brilliance.” This GAWAD STARSS Awarding Ceremony is a testament that these allied health students are inspiration, even when they are tired from studying and dealing with sleepless nights. They remain to consider their organization and the way they’ve contributed to the institution, and the next batch of student leaders hopes to carry on their organization’s legacy and shine brightly. #Collin Jaye Laguinday
