Establishing the Legacy of Leadership: PCC-SSC Meet-and-Greet Amalgamates New Set of Elected Officers

Pines City Colleges will be the witness to a milestone event that will seal student governance in the coming school year. Last September 12, 2024, the Supreme Student Council (SSC) and the Student Affairs and Services headed by Mr. Jayson P. Belino conducted a meet-and-greet activity for the newly elected set of SSC officers for the school year 2024-2025. This activity was an opportunity for the officers in the SSC to collectively reiterate their commitment to service and a leadership mantle that the council has already assumed.

This activity was held at the Quality Assurance Office. The invited participants were the newly elected officers of the SSC, their adviser, Ma’am Marie Juliene Astudillio, RPh, the school administrators, Dr. Marian Grace A. Gascon, VP for Academic Affairs, and Ms. Ma. Regina S. Prats, VP for Administration and Finance. Essentially, this is a venue for the purpose of nurturing continued partnership and strengthening the relationship between student leaders and the administration.

A Platform for Engagement

The program was led by the PCC-SSC Vice President, Jhahina A. M. Barredo. It began with the opening prayer, afterward the welcome remarks and setting of objectives were addressed by Ms. Sunshine S. Gano, a representative from the Student Affairs Office. These activities boosted the day’s agenda and opened ways for successful discussions.

The highlight of the day is the induction ceremony that is directed by the newly elected officers, presenting their full names with an adjective that represents themselves before the house gets decorous for the coming academic year. This is followed by the SSC one-year development plan for 2024-2025 that wass led by Zhianela Rishun G. Vicente, PCC-SSC President. She started with the launched August activities, including school-starting month-setup events to build community and excitement in students. The Welcome Back and Information Desk were complete with a balloon guide to find departmental areas easily. Additionally, the “Landmark Bingo” encourages the discovery and exploration of the larger campus landmarks. The council also celebrates International Youth Day through “Fusion Bingo” with the students to showcase and facilitate the youth’s collaboration for unity and fun at the closing of August. The Supreme Student Council is equipped with monthly activities that the students, staff, and administrators would anticipate. This develops a framework through which the council directs its actions and sets objectives for the year, defining how the SSC can best serve the students.

Open Forum: An Avenue for Plenary Discussion

After the discussions, a health break awaits the attendees so that they can be refreshed as they prepare for an open forum session. A time will be given to the students, advisers, and administrators for dialogue, ideas, suggestions, and recommendations. Ms. Gano from SAO led this very important discussion, creating a setting conducive to a dialogue that will provide their views on how to better student government.

Anchoring Partnerships

The meet-and-greet is not just a simple activity; it is a strategic move to ensure that the SSC officers, along with their adviser and the school administrators, work hand in hand throughout the academic year. These gathering cements the SSC commitment to the one-year development plan laid down and tightens the relationships of all parties involved in the experience. The final announcements and expressions of gratitude, marking the end of the event, will reflect the general feeling that such cooperation can only lead to the success of the council in the coming year.

Behind the Scenes

The success of this event would never have been fruitful without the detailed planning of some instrumental people. Above all, Mr. Belino head of Student Affairs and Services who contributes much to this program’s smooth flow, in addition to the support of Dr. Gascon, VP for Academic Affairs, and Ms. Prats, VP for Administration and Finance. Their guidance and oversight continue to shape student leadership development at PCC.

This meet-and-greet marks a productive voyage as newly elected SSC officers prepare for the challenges that lie ahead in the coming school year. This event would, therefore, testify to lasting student leadership here at Pines City Colleges through the incorporation of collaboration, engagement, and transparency. #JAM BARREDO
