The Sagudin-Balili River, flowing through Baguio City and nearby municipalities in Benguet, has become one of the most polluted rivers in the country due to rapid urbanization, improper waste disposal, and limited wastewater treatment facilities. Once a vital source of water for communities and agriculture, the river now suffers from severe contamination, posing risks to both the environment and public health.

To address this issue, government agencies and local authorities have implemented clean-up and rehabilitation efforts, including community clean-up drives and sewerage improvements. However, pollution remains a challenge due to population growth, inadequate infrastructure, and limited public participation.
In response, the river was adopted by the Metro Baguio Rivers and Creeks Rehabilitation Program (MPRB) in partnership with Pines City Colleges for a five-year period (2024–2029). Through the program “Agus ti namnama,” translated as ‘The Flowing Hope of Balili River’ the initiative promotes awareness and collective responsibility, reminding the public that the river is a source of life not a dumping ground. The program encourages simple yet impactful actions such as proper waste segregation, community clean-ups, and environmental education.

This initiative solely focuses on unifying idea, “PCC para sa Kalikasan,” reflecting PCC’s strong commitment to nature and environmental stewardship. It underscores the institution’s dedication to promoting sustainable practices, protecting natural resources, and fostering a sense of environmental responsibility within the academic community. Through collective actions such as this, PCC continues to inspire students and employees to take an active role in caring for the environment and supporting long-term ecological balance.
Rehabilitating the Balili River is vital to reducing health risks caused by contaminated water, improving water quality, and enhancing community safety and well-being. With sustained cooperation and shared responsibility, the Sagudin-Balili River can be restored, ensuring a cleaner, healthier environment for present and future generations. #Iveeh Amparo
